Social Emotional Intervention and Support

The Department of Instructional Interventions in collaboration with building staff provide opportunities for all students to receive additional enrichment, supports, and intervention. The process is implemented through a Response to Intervention (RTI) framework. This framework includes screening assessments, assessments to show growth, and speciailized interventions that are determined by a school based problem solving team.

The Department of Instructional Interventions maintains and nurtures the collaboration and support of students in conjunction with the building staff. We support students through special programs and by embedding staff trained in social and emotional interventions and support.

Student Assistance Counselors are available to support students at all of our Middle Schools and High Schools. The focus on interventions that promote healthy choices, abstinence from substances, crisis prevention and response, and they are members of each buildings problem solving team.

School Counselors are available to support students’ academic and social pathway toward independence and well-being.  They support the schools through academic guidance, social emotional counseling, liaison with classroom teachers, they support the teams with crisis response, and they are members of the school problem solving team.

School Psychologists provide academic and social emotional evaluation and intervention. They are members of the schools problem solving team and support the process of RtI, 504 Plans, and IEP evaluation.

School Social Workers provide social and emotional support to the entire school body. Students may be referred to the Social Worker from a staff member, 504 Plan, IEP, or they may self-refer. They are members of their building problem solving team and provide direct service and intervention to students in need and they support classroom instruction and RtI interventions.

Student Support Specialist provide direct intervention for students referred or that self-refer when there is a concern of self-harm or harm to others. They are specifically equipped to assess, develop action plans, and make referrals to internal or community supports. They also support students as they transition between school and hospital settings.

Certified School Nurses are available to support students at all of our Elementary Schools, Middle Schools and High Schools. As members of the school problem solving teams, they support students' needs, promoting wellness, abstinence from substances interventions, crisis prevention and professional support through the delivery of nursing care and though interventions provided through Response to Intervention processes, 504 Plan development and IEP evaluations.
