Fox Valley Mental Health Advocacy Council

The Fox Valley Mental Health Advocacy Council is dedicated to ensuring a positive change of perception of mental illness and related issues, improving early identification and intervention, and enhancing the quality and simplifying the accessibility of support systems.

Comprised of local mental health professionals, school personnel, and other community members, the Fox Valley Mental Health Advocacy Council formed as a result of recommendations from the 2013 St. Charles District 303 Summit on Mental Health.

The 2013 Summit highlighted the need to combat stigma and expand awareness and access to mental health services.

Since that time, the Council has become an independent organization and has expanded to include the Tri-Cities (St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia) and surrounding communities.

Self-Help Groups

Except for worldwide self-help networks like Alcoholics Anonymous, the availablility of local self-help groups is always changing, depending primarily on utilization and leadership. Begin with an internet search of the national association (or local provider) most closely related to your area of interest/need, e.g., Autism Society of America, Anxiety Disorders Association of America, NAMI, Suicide Prevention Services, Hospice, Senior Services Associates.

The following is a listing of self-help groups in the Fox Valley area. The links below are a starting place to reach many local resources; this is not a comprehensive listing. These links are provided for informational purposes only; inclusion of a listing does not indicate endorsement by or affiliation with D303 or the FVMHAC.
